United to make an impact on local communities nationwide

At Wilson Security, we believe our potential goes far beyond safeguarding physical spaces.

Building on the successes showcased in our inaugural 2023/24 Sustainability Report, we’re proud to spotlight three remarkable charities we continue to support: the Alannah & Madeline Foundation (AMF), Movember, and Bravery Trust.

From donations through to fundraising and volunteer campaigns, these relationships and initiatives not only further the cause of these organisations but give our people opportunities to connect, grow and contribute to worthwhile causes.

Whether it’s pursuing better outcomes for Australia’s veterans to raising awareness of some of the most pressing issues facing men and women today, we’re proud to connect, support and lead communities across Australia.

Empowering young lives alongside Alannah & Madeline Foundation (AMF)

Beginning in 2020, Wilson Security's support for AMF is built on closely aligned values and a shared commitment to helping children and young people live free from violence and trauma.

“Through a continued commitment to supporting our cause and engaging your staff in a meaningful way, Wilson Security has contributed more than $1 million to the Foundation – a phenomenal milestone that has helped us to continue our important work,” Sarah Davies, Chief Executive Officer at AMF, acknowledged in a recent conversation.

"Wilson Security has been instrumental in amplifying the reach of our Care programmes, enabling us to make a tangible and lasting difference in the lives of thousands of children throughout Australia," Sarah highlighted.

This includes the distribution of over 13,370 Buddy Bags: backpacks filled with essential items such as pyjamas, underwear, toothpaste, books and a teddy bear. Wilson Security employees have personally helped pack 2,500 Buddy Bags that have been distributed nationally.

Wilson Security's support has also helped AMF to assist 53 children to recover and heal from extreme violence and trauma through the Children Ahead programme. Additionally, this backing has supported 4,463 early childhood educators in their work with children who have experienced trauma.

“Corporate partnerships play a crucial role in advancing the mission of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation by providing essential support and resources that amplify our impact,” Sarah notes. “Wilson Security stands out as an exemplary partner due to their commitment to our shared values of helping children and young people live free from violence and trauma."

From Wilson Security’s perspective, Beti Dafovski, General Manager Comcare, Welfare, and Corporate Social Responsibility, expressed pride in the company's commitment.

“As the custodian of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme, I am proud of our organisation's commitment to creating enduring value for its employees and the communities in which we live and operate. It's pleasing to see the engagement of our employees supporting various charity organisations and campaigns which shine a bright light in people's lives and their communities.”

Raising awareness of men’s health with Movember

Wilson Security’s ongoing support for Movember reflects our commitment to men’s health and well-being. In a traditionally masculine environment, it is crucial to break the stigma around discussing mental and physical health. Through our support of Movember, we aim to encourage open conversations and support for men’s mental health both within the security industry and society as a whole.

Over the past few years, Wilson Security has raised more than $105,000 for Movember, helping address important men’s health issues.

“We love how their staff show up year-on-year, growing Mo’s, taking on our Move challenge, and supporting in all kinds of other amazing ways to raise funds and start conversations for men’s health,” Movember told us.

The funds raised by Wilson Security have supported various initiatives, like the Movember Ahead of the Game program. This youth mental fitness initiative educates players, parents, coaches, umpires and volunteers on understanding mental health, building mental fitness and strengthening resilience.

“By supporting Movember, Wilson Security staff are showing that they’re here to break down unhealthy stereotypes and social norms of the past, creating a safe and supportive environment for their male colleagues and wider male communities.”

Mitesh Patel, a Commercial Estimator at Wilson Security and captain of our National Movember team, shared what this support means.

“My motivation for supporting Movember is personal, driven by experiences with friends and family affected by testicular cancer and mental health challenges. This cause is close to my heart and Movember allows me to contribute meaningfully to improving men’s health.”

‘Wilson Security’s support for Movember is vital as it aligns with our values. It promotes a culture of openness and support, demonstrating our commitment to social impact.”

By creating awareness and fostering a supportive environment, we believe individuals acting as one can make a tangible difference in men’s health, which in turn creates happier and healthier communities.

Honouring our veterans with Bravery Trust

Bravery Trust provides urgent financial aid and long-term veteran-specific financial counselling to empower veterans and their families, helping them transition from military to civilian life and rebuild their financial security.

With longstanding engagements with Australia’s Defence community, Wilson Security’s support of Bravery Trust highlights our commitment to honouring the sacrifices made by our servicemen and servicewomen.

“Through Wilson Security’s strong on-base presence and connection to the Defence community, we have been able to work collaboratively to increase awareness about the support we offer and encourage early conversations about financial challenges to reduce or avoid the stress of hardship,” Bravery Trust told us.

The tangible outcomes of this relationship are profound. For example, Tara, an Army veteran who sustained an injury during training, shared her story with us.

“I was flat broke. Didn’t have so much as a coin in my wallet. Someone suggested I call Bravery Trust. I picked up the phone. On the other end of the line was a group of people so kind, caring and supportive who just wanted to help... and help they did. The support from Bravery Trust got us through a tough time so we were able to rebuild our financial security despite the loss of income.”

Grant Moffitt, General Manager – Defence at Wilson Security, expressed his personal connection to the cause.

“I am a proud veteran myself and have first-hand experience of the challenges veterans face whilst they transition from military life to civilian life. Many things a ‘civvy’ takes for granted are foreign to a veteran, including basic life administration such as applying for a Medicare card or choosing a superannuation fund.”

Grant’s leadership has been pivotal in advocating for Bravery Trust within Wilson Security and the broader community.

“Wilson Security’s support of Bravery Trust enables them to continue to run their financial counselling programmes to support veterans and their families in times of crisis. All Australians are facing a cost-of-living crisis at the moment, and veterans are certainly not immune to these challenges.”

The collaboration also includes initiatives like the Veteran Employment Programme, which offers meaningful employment opportunities to veterans, thereby helping them transition smoothly into civilian life.

But it doesn’t end there…

In 2023, Wilson Security supported a range of organisations through fundraising, corporate support, and team activations and will continue to build on these commitments in 2024.
