Celebrating Wilson Security Volunteers During National Volunteer Week 2024
At Wilson Security, we take immense pride in our employees who are making significant contributions to their communities through volunteering. National Volunteer Week, held from 20-26 May 2024, provides the perfect opportunity to highlight their inspiring efforts and encourage others to get involved. This year's theme, 'Something for Everyone,' underscores the diverse passions and talents our volunteers bring to their causes.
Dean Bryden: Building Community Through Cricket
First, we spotlight Dean Bryden, Security Manager, who exemplifies our commitment to community service.
Dean's journey is a testament to the transformative power of community service. As the founder and president of the Altona Sports Junior Cricket Club and a member of the Altona Sports Club's Board of Directors, he has left an indelible mark.
Dean spearheads a junior outreach program in Melbourne's Western Suburbs to introduce cricket to underprivileged and newly arrived Australians. His personal experience in the sport has fuelled his drive to create an inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to play, regardless of their financial situation or cultural background.
The program provides players with kits, uniforms, and coaching from professionals like Scott Edwards, captain of the Netherlands cricket team. With nearly 100 junior players from 11 different cultural backgrounds, the initiative fosters a safe and inclusive environment, promoting unity and community spirit.
The program was recently honoured as the 2023/2024 Cricket Victoria Inclusions & Diversity Program of the Year. The program's success is a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives in promoting inclusivity and breaking down barriers.
Dean is grateful for the recognition and says,
"It's not something I normally like to talk about on an individual basis as it takes a large team to run the program that we do."
He stresses,
"It is important to highlight that it takes a team of people to assist in running any community program. We're always happy to welcome new volunteers. The more people that are involved, the better!"
His message highlights that community service is a collective effort and requires the support of many individuals to make a meaningful impact.
Dean's story is a powerful reminder of how individual initiative can foster community, inclusivity, and hope.
Dewan Mamun: Honouring a Friend Through Advocacy
Next, we honour Dewan Mamun, Workforce Planner, for his devoted volunteer work with Motor Neuron Disease VIC (MND).
Dewan's connection to MND VIC began three years ago when his lifelong best friend, Khairul Islam Sachi, was diagnosed with the disease. Moved by the organisation's extensive support to Khairul and his family during such challenging times, Dewan was inspired to contribute to their efforts.
Through organising events to raise awareness and funds, Dewan has made significant strides in supporting MND research and patient support.
His initiatives, supported by MND VIC, have garnered appreciation and continued to honour the memory of his friend Khairul, who passed away last year but whose spirit energises the ongoing campaign.
Dewan's commitment is currently channelled into the "Drink Tea for MND" campaign - a community effort that fosters engagement and raises funds for this crucial cause.
Reflecting on his volunteer work, Dewan shares,
"It's a way to keep my friend's legacy alive and support an organisation that gave him and his family immense support during their toughest time."
We are proud of Dewan's selflessness and dedication to making a difference at Wilson Security. His story is a powerful example of how our employees are not just protecting our clients but are also deeply engaged in enriching our communities.
Join us in applauding Dewan for his admirable contributions!

Beti Dafovski: Giving Back to Those Who Saved Her Daughter
Finally, we celebrate Beti Dafovski, General Manager Comcare, Welfare, and CSR, for her heartfelt volunteer work with the Royal Children's Hospital and the Good Friday Appeal.
Beti's connection to the Royal Children's Hospital is deeply personal. Twenty-six years ago, her six-week-old daughter was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition. The family spent weeks in ICU, months as inpatients, and years as outpatients at the hospital, while also staying at Ronald McDonald House. The care, support, and empathy shown by the hospital's specialists, doctors, nurses, and staff profoundly impacted Beti and her family.
Driven by gratitude, for over two decades, Beti has dedicated herself to volunteering at the Good Friday Appeal, which raises funds for the Royal Children's Hospital. She finds immense joy in supporting the hospital that once supported her family, and sees it as a way to give back for the life-saving care her daughter received.
Reflecting on her experience, Beti says,
"The care, support, and empathy specialists, doctors, nurses, and staff show children and their families is absolutely phenomenal. I wholeheartedly enjoy every aspect of volunteering at the Good Friday Appeal and being able support them to continue doing what they do and in a way give back to them what they gave me."
Beti's story is a testament to the profound impact of volunteering and the difference it can make in people's lives. Her dedication exemplifies the true spirit of giving back and supporting our communities.
