Case Study: Implementing cutting-edge comms at Quay Quarter Tower

Wilson Security has taken building security and customer service to a new level with its state-of-the-art security communications and operating platform at the Quay Quarter Tower (QQT) in Sydney.

Through a newly developed voice, data, video and analytics solution, Wilson Security provides 24/7 security services for the revamped Quay Quarter Tower (QQT) precinct, including security management, guarding, and control room operations.

To create a trailblazing tracking and communications system for QQT's security needs, we joined forces with Australian telecommunications integrator CSE Crosscom and Motorola Technologies.

An award-winning project sparks a new way of living and working

The impressive QQT project, which spans two city blocks, fuses revolutionary workplace architecture with spacious and modern residential apartments and intricate laneway retail.

The project was the winner of the International High-Rise Award, thanks to the architect’s (3XN and BVN) decision to save 7,500 tones in carbon dioxide emissions by refusing to demolish the old AMP Centre at 50 Bridge Street and instead retaining the southern side of the building and its core to rebuild on the site.

A vertical village intended to redefine the future of work, QQT’s goal is to unify and promote human interactions with smart technologies to transform how we live and work within an inner-city environment. A truly integrated and state-of-the-art security and communications solutions was core to achieving this ambitious goal.

Watch: Market Leading Security Technologies Integrated in the Quay Quarter Tower, Sydney by CSE, Motorola Solutions and Wilson Security

Combining cutting-edge capabilities to create a new technology solution

To embed technology in support of a truly ‘vertical village’ at QQT, the in-house technology team at Wilson Security partnered with CSE Crosscom and Motorola Technologies to engineer a solution that integrated Motorola's Safety Reimagined Ecosystems (including Motorola ION Android Hybrid Radio units) with its Daelibs Workforce Guidance BLT tracking.

This Workforce Guidance can track data points in real time, helping to leverage the Internet of Things to provide spatially aware solutions within buildings.

Wilson Security also employed Motorola's Capacity Plus single-site trunking network, which was linked to an antenna system that was strategically distributed to cover all 55 floors of the QQT, including the five basement levels.

This new solution helps Wilson Security’s on-site team use Motorola ION digital radios on site, meaning they only need one device to securely communicate across the private radio network. The ION's 4G features let them make phone calls and send or transmit data, photos, and videos securely and efficiently.

Additional apps were integrated to support security compliance and improve real-time operations, while Bluetooth beacons were combined with Motorola ION features, helping Wilson Security track the location of its security personnel and help them quickly respond to issues or risks.

The ethos of a ‘vertical village’ for QQT revolves around finding new integrations that support better ways of working and living.

To reflect this ethos, a key requirement of the project was that all information collected across the security system could be fed back to a single point within the Control Room. This has resulted in an integrated security solution that is dependable, efficient, scalable and easy to manage as new technologies come online in the future.

A new era of adaptability and innovation

What makes the work to create a unified and cutting-edge security solution at QQT even more important is its adaptability.

The success of the security program at QQT has opened up opportunities to expand the communications platform to other building service providers – from cleaning, maintenance, and concierge through to facilities management. These service providers can all benefit from the same reliable and cutting-edge technology to improve their offering while securely managing data as living, retail, and workspaces plug into more integrated digital networks.

By collaborating with CSE Crosscom and Motorola technologies, Wilson Security has created a fully integrated security service that raises the bar for efficient and effective security management.

As technology advances, it's exciting to see how we can further adapt and evolve to provide the best possible services across industries.

As one of Australia’s largest security providers with over 7000+ employees, Wilson Security is constantly exploring new ways of integrating and partnering with leaders across different industries to find new solutions for the security of our people and places.
