Giving Back: Corporate Social Responsibility Highlights (Jan-April)

At Wilson Security, we believe in going the extra mile to make a difference.

This April, a dedicated team of four embarked on a remarkable journey to support the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, a cause close to our hearts. Through sweat, determination, and a shared passion for helping others, they trekked through the breathtaking Three Capes across the Tasman Peninsula, all in the name of keeping children and young people safe from violence and trauma.

Our commitment doesn't stop there. From participating in Melbourne's beloved Run for the Kids event to packing 'Buddy Bags' for the Alannah & Madeline Foundation to our ongoing partnership with the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, we constantly seek new ways to contribute to the well-being of our communities. And with your support, we can continue to make a lasting impact.

Read on to learn more about our recent adventures and how you can get involved!

On 27th April, Wilson Security's Beti Dafovski, Kaylene Baker, Paul Brazier and Greg Watson embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, trekking 46 kilometres over four days through the Three Capes in Tasmania, to raise money in support of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation in keeping children and young people free from violence and trauma wherever they live, learn and play.

Hiking with Heart: Our Team's Adventure for Change

Our four participants recount their experiences.

Beti Dafovski, National Comcare Manager:

“The 46km Three Capes hike across the Tasman Peninsula was an incredible experience which will forever be etched in my heart and mind.

Hiking the distance in support of the tremendous work the Alannah & Madeline Foundation do with a wonderful group of people who all shared the same purpose in raising funds to keep children and young people safe from trauma and violence was equal parts challenging, emotional and exhilarating.  Trekking alongside Walter, Bridgette and Alannah & Madeline Foundation’s CEO Sarah Davies was incredibly special.

Hiking through the picturesque landscapes provided moments of reflection to remember those who are no longer with us as well as the incredible work undertaken by the Alannah & Madeline Foundation.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and generous donations which will go towards supporting children and young people to feel safe, loved and nurtured wherever they live, learn and play.

We would love to reach our goal of $20,000 and hope that with your continued support we can achieve this.”

Paul Brazier, General Manager of Risk and Compliance, added:

"It was a privilege to experience the Three Capes Walk with the Alannah & Madeline Foundation representing Wilson Security with Beti, Greg and Kaylene. An experience that certainly pushed some physical and emotional boundaries but one to remember surrounded by an amazing group of people taking in the spectacular scenery the Tasman peninsula has on offer.

The walk was made more special by having Walter Mikac with us on the journey. Those that understand the relevance and timing of that will know what having Walter on the walk means, but for me it shows the metal of an inspirational human."

Kaylene Baker, Rehab & RTW Advisor:

"I found it a great honour to participate in this special event, it was a time of reflection and an opportunity to raise much-needed funds, the support from Wilson Security, family and friends has been overwhelming. To conquer the Three Capes was challenging at times, although nothing in comparison to reasons we were there.

We were fortunate enough to experience beautiful weather and share the experience with very special people, all of whom were there in support of the Foundation."

Greg Watson, General Manager:

"The Alannah & Madeline Foundation Three Capes Trek was a fantastic experience where we experienced perfect weather, spectacular scenery, and the company of a terrific group of people all supporting the same worthy cause.

A personal highlight was meeting Walter and Bridget and I trust they feel assured the Foundation is in very good hands.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience that has raised valuable funds for the Alannah & Madeline Foundation in making a difference in the lives of children at risk."

Run for kids

In March, a team of 21 employees from Wilson Security joined more than 20,000 participants running, jogging, or walking in the annual Run for the Kids event.

Run for the Kids is Melbourne's most loved fun run, raising funds for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal. The team laced up on the overcast Sunday to make their way through a great course for a great cause.

Some more spirited members of the team set off early to take the once-a-year opportunity to jog and walk the Bolte Bridge and Domain Tunnel in the 14.5km long course, while others went for the friendlier 4.6km short course, both with magnificent views of Melbourne and crossing the finish line in Docklands.

Money raised will support the Royal Children's Hospital to deliver the best treatment to every child now and into the future through:

  • state-of-the-art equipment and technology
  • patient and family-centred care programs
  • ground-breaking research
  • fostering staff excellence through education programs, scholarships, and fellowships

A huge thank you and congratulations to our Wilson Security team, who conquered Run for the Kids Melbourne 2023.

We are proud to announce the Wilson Security Lifeblood Team has already smashed our 2022 donations count of 34 donations/102 lives saved by 59 donations/180 lives saved; we are only 4 months into 2023, and we can only improve on these numbers throughout 2023.

Please join the team; this is an opportunity for all of us to band together and give something more powerful than money.

For the month of March, our Wilson Security Lifeblood Team managed to save a whopping 54* lives! This is our biggest jump in donations, bringing our total for the year to 180* lives saved! Let's see if we can save another 70 lives in April!

AMF Buddy bag

buddy-bag-conference-group-photo.jpg

In February, the Wilson Security team volunteered part of their time at the Wilson Security Leadership Conference to pack ‘Buddy Bags’ for the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

The team lovingly packed comforting backpacks filled with items like pyjamas, toiletries, books, a toy, and a teddy bear.

Buddy Bags are given to infants, children and teenagers who arrive in emergency care with nothing and aim to show children they are cared for and loved. They also help restore a sense of security, which is one of the vital first steps to recovery.

A Buddy Bag is more than just the items in it. It gives a child personal items for them to keep, things of their own that they don’t have to leave behind. One backpack can mean the world!

With the support of the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, we set up 10 packing stations at the Wilson Security Leadership Conference, where employees from around the country participated in pack Buddy Bags.

Together, We Make a Difference

Our team's dedication to Corporate Social Responsibility - seen this quarter in supporting the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, participating in Run for the Kids, donating life-saving blood, and packing Buddy Bags - exemplifies Wilson Securities' commitment to positively impacting the lives of young people and our wider community.

Stay tuned for upcoming initiatives and opportunities to contribute, and let's continue to make a difference together.
