Shaping tech solutions with leading expertise in private security. Wilson Security, Australia’s leading security company, is working with leading data and AI technology partners to develop new cutting-edge security solutions to protect Australian businesses, communities and people.

Wilson Security hosted a closed event at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne to present its findings on how innovative electronic security technologies will shape the future of security in a post-COVID world.

“COVID-19 has forced a wide-spread adaptation of many types of technologies that benefit everyday safety of Australians – from QR code check-ins for COVID tracing to the wider adaptation of apps for everyday tasks like grocery shopping and booking in parking,” said Wilson Security Chief Executive Officer Nick Frangoulis. “Public trust in technology is at an all-time high and it’s become clear to our clients that now is the time to start implementing new technologies to create better business efficiencies and leverage data to manage emerging risks and threats.”

Wilson Security established its Innovation Advisory Council (IAC) in June 2020 to build new, breakthrough solutions for its customers through the exploration of new electronic security technologies and ideas. From implementing Augmented Reality into training and using remote-controlled drones for surveillance, the IAC puts new ideas through a rigorous process to refine the concepts. The key learnings are ultimately applied to Wilson Security’s service delivery and efforts to safeguard the company’s business sustainability – an award-winning venture that was recognised as an ABA100 Winner for Business Innovation in The Australian Business Awards this past October.

“The IAC is critical in establishing clear and productive processes that supports idea-generation within the company, a culture that prioritises innovation – and it is a reflection of our collective intent to meet new and emerging challenges by raising the bar and setting new best practices,” said Frangoulis.

Through past Proof-of-Concept Trials, Wilson Security found that augmented reality and wearable glasses technology has several great applications in security work today and may play a larger role in other solutions, such as repairs and maintenance. The solution has been implemented for a large commercial real estate client, which has benefitted from working collaboratively with Wilson Security to tailor the technology to its business.

Wilson Security is also working with technology partners like Motorola to explore the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to data from surveillance cameras.

“AI will never replace human expertise and judgement in complex security situations,” said Frangoulis.

“Where AI can help the most is in monitoring and flagging patterns for security officers and giving us the option to redirect our attention to taking appropriate action and initiative. Most security officers monitoring cameras only spend about five per cent of their time actively addressing risky behaviour and acting to protect, secure, and prevent issues in the workplace. Security officers have a valuable skill set that can be leveraged more to support business objectives beyond watching security footage.”
